After all these years we find it's now time to call it quits. There's nothing dramatic to it, we just finally admit that it's barely worth the trouble trying to stay active living hundreds of miles apart and having families, day jobs and other activities. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you people who have been supporting us along the way, you've really made a difference. In practice this means that we will not be planning any future releases or be booking any more gigs. We'd like to think of the Lahti gig next weekend as the farewell in front of some of the most loyal audiences we've come across, and we would certainly like to see as many of you people there as possible. Thank you for the past seventeen years and goodbye!
Mitenhän tuon suomentais? Me nyt sitten kuitenkin laitetaan lopultakin lappu luukulle, eli melkein täysi-ikäiseksi ehtinyt The Lunatics hajoaa musiikilliseen ja henkilökohtaiseen yksimielisyyteen. Täsäpä onkin sopiva sauma erittelemättä ja nimittelemättä lämpimimmin kiitellä kaikkia teitä jotka olette meitä seitsemäntoista vuoden varrella kannustaneet ja tukeneet, ilman teitä tämä lysti olisi loppunut paljon aiemmin, ellei alkuunsa. Nyt on kuitenkin tultu siihen pisteeseen ettei uusia julkaisuja enää suunnitella eikä keikkoja buukata. Vaikkei tulevan viikonlopun Lahden keikalle Tube Parkissa olekaan mitään lopettajaisspektaakkeleja suunniteltu, niin tavallaan me kuitenkin siinä samalla käytetään tilaisuus jättää jäähyväiset sen yleisön edessä joka on meitä vuodesta toiseen saapunut Twangiin ja Tubeen näkemään, toivottavasti joukossa näkyy paljon tuttuja kasvoja. Kiitos, hei!
Grande, Rovaniemi and Ankkuri, Kemi have been confirmed. Heads up!
Noniin, nyt varmistui Ankkuri Kemissä. Meh-met tulemme taas!
Grande, Rovaniemi has been confirmed. Sami is working on Oulu or Kemi.
Rovaniemelle mennään ens kuusa, lauantaikeikki on Samilla vielä tuunauksesa.
Not much has been going on this year. We are planning to throw a couple of gigs this autumn, though. Rovaniemi, Kemi and probably Oulu are being discussed. And our website has been moved under yet another ISP, hopefully you did not notice the transition. I will update the gigs as soon as they are confirmed.
The event in Willisika has been cancelled for reasons unknown to us. Minibaari once again kindly co-operated so that we were able to reschedule Seinäjoki three weeks later. Conveniently, we will be performing at Oulu MC party in Oulu the following day, instead of Willisika. Dates have been corrected in the gigs section.
The best of news! Gigs coming! If not only to confirm we're still in business, I'm proud to announce gigs in Minibaari, Seinäjoki and Willisika, Oulu on May 2nd and 3rd.
Hittolainen! Pohojoos-Pohojanmaala. Kaikki justiisa tokkoomaan ja jorroomaan.
Well, geographically speaking, we split up some eight years ago. However, unless somebody provides some rock solid evidence, we refuse to admit to rumours about us having ceased to exist as a band. In fact, on the Extras section, there's proof that we are in pretty good shape, given that the Suomussalmi gig was thrown after only a couple of hours at the rehearsal room. And that's about how much we practiced last year.
All of us have had, now have, and hopefully will always have project bands, solo careers, world tours and world domination conspiracy going on. This does not imply that any of us would have any intention to give up on the years of friendship, devotion and joy, which best describes this band that we've most been enjoying playing in and having fun with. And that's it. Case closed.
Peruskartastonäkökulmasta me hajottiin kyllä jo vuosituhannen vaihteen tienoilla.
We're glad to have one more show in Oulu this year, this time at Pata MC party on November the 3rd. Also some work is underway for setting up a mini tour in Russia. Gigs in Moscow and St. Petersburgh are being discussed at the moment. The Extras section is available again, after being down for no less than six months. Click Extras on the left to re-animate the monster!
Not much to report. We had to cancel our participation in the Down by the Kemijoki festival. Instead, we'll be playing at Suomussalmi-Rock. See you there.
Vähän on hiljaista.
for everybody who were at NGO and Grande last weekend. It felt like home. Hope it was the same for you :) Web-wise, the extras server will be down for at least a couple of weeks for reasons beyond our power.
I'm such a lazy webmaster. No, I won't even go there now. Instead, I tell that we'll pay a visit to Rovaniemi and Lappeenranta at least, during the spring. Oulu is not out of the question, yet. Oh, and a couple of previously unreleased tracks made it on a compilation from Twangsville, in case you are interested. Featuring Mervi and Rape, for once!
Noni.
We survived Tube Park '07, for various reasons. I found the Finnish Found Property Office somewhat comforting, as it happened that fifteen minutes before the showtime I discovered that I had forgotten my effect gig box in the train. One phone call and 46€ brought it back to me in three days, though. Luckily Sami had a spare delay box with him, otherwise I would have looked even grumpier than I do in the gallery kindly posted by an unsuspecting spectator by the name 'Hotspot'. Thanks for that!
In any other respect we had the greatest time! Thanks to The Family N for the smoothest co-operation and arrangements, Kalle Moilanen and the actual sound staff for making us sound like a real band, the very best of the bands for brilliant performances, Kalle Viikate for thrusting Telstar to the next orbit, and last but definately not the least, the loveliest people we only get to see so often. Wish we'd always have a spare day to waste at the spot.
Tuota sivuseikkaa muistelematta olikin sitten kaikin puolin erinomaiset juhlat!
Tupé Park is around the corner. Moilu paid a quick visit to Oulu today and we had a remarkably efficient four hour rehearsal session at Atria. Something bad is bound to happen in Lahti since everything seems to be in order at the moment...
The last two or three copies of 'No Sleep' will be sold at Tupé Park, so if you want one and cannot make it to Lahti on the 27th, you will have to pay big bucks to a dutch middle man. We got a new box of 'Tour du Monde', though. If you don't have one yet, it is the right time to order, everything must go at €12, until further notice.
A warm and very late thank you for all of you involved in Aulis tour. Special thanks to Ari for the excellent photoes. I guess the previous ones were taken some three years ago.
I've been experimenting with another web site for archiving some old and some new media that would not fit in our commercially hosted site. Up until yesterday there has been only a bundle of old photoes, but yesterday I prepared a bunch of decent quality mp3 clips from seven years back. Click Extra on the menu to check it out, there's more to come.
Lämmin jos kohta myöhäinen kiitos kaikille Aulis-kiertueeseen liittyville. Eri kiitos vielä Arille makeista keikkakuvista, edellisistä taisikin mennä jo jotain kolme vuotta.
Hömppäserveri alkaa olla pikku hiljaa pydessä. Uutuutena nyt muutama kohtalainen clippi seitsemän vuoden takaa nelivitosen kesälupilta, vanhojen ja vähän uudempienkin valokuvien lisäksi. Paina menusta Extra ja tsekkaa, musaa tulee pian lisää kunhan saan editoitua.
Thanks for everybody who showed up at Never Grow Old, we needed you! It also became evident that we could use some playing lessons or at least some additional rehearsal hours in order to get our shit together for the upcoming easter tour (three days and ticking...). Anyway, many thanks to PP for kindly offering to promote the Helsinki gig, and Kalle and others for flexibility in tour arrangements. We'll make it up to you :)
I'm very happy to announce that The Lunatics will dust their monkey suits and head for Helsinki on the 13th of April to begin a four day blitzkrieg trip into instrumental and non-instrumental music, TV drama/comedy nostalgy and whatnot with Viikate. Dates and venues for the four shows are now on the gigs page for assistance in booking your winter holiday. Pick the two nearest! Free lifetime unconditional Globe Club memberships for those who'll bring their own pillow!
Suameks: The Lunatics starttaa Kouvolalaisen Viikate-orkan kera löyhähkösti TV-viitteiselle 'Aulis Kaakko' -pääsiäiskierueelle alkaen Helsinskistä torstaina 13. huhtikuuta.
I got tired of the site layout and finally decided to do something about it. You are viewing the results at the moment. I streamlined the site structure in the process and got rid of pages with little or no info at all. Oh, and we have had almost 21000 visitors, thank you for your interest!
For reasons beyond our power The Lunatics will not perform at the second Tube Park in Lahti. This has nothing to do with the festival or the arrangements, and we're sorry for not being able to attend the event that is undoubtedly becoming a remarkable successor to The Famous Twang.
We have made some progress with the mini tour I spoke about a while ago. The agreements are still in preliminary phase, so I will not list the date and venue candidates just yet. I will get back to you on that later. Meanwhile, enjoy the fall and check out the popular bands.
Oh, and a great thank you to Hantte & the rest of The Aftons, people of Periferia and Brainless and all the other lovely people we met at Emma 2005. I may have the nerve to share some of the photoes Saikku kindly pointed me at.
No, I'm not dead, I'm just father of two.
Updated the gigs. Cleaned up this news page of techie mumbo jumbo and scribblings with negative informational value. Nothing interesting to report, really. Arranging a mini tour in the April has been on the agenda but that's still six months away, so it's a bit early to speak more. Welcome to Emma and Tube Park: We'll try to rock like hell, as it's only so often that we get a chance.
The first Tube Park came and went, and boy, am I beat? Thanks to everybody who helped us out, especially Kalle and Keijo. Are we getting old or is it just my imagination but it seems to me that the after hour parties drain our batteries more and more each year. As much fun as we had, the amount of misery is constant, and at least I paid back every bit during the 10 hour trip back home. The train got stuck in snow at Sukeva for two hours and it took an extra engine to get the damn thing moving again. Next time we'll drive without complaints.
Anyway, great party, nice people, same time next year, huh?
Thanks to Seinäjoki and Helsinki, and especially all you lovely people who bothered to help us with accommodation and kept us company while getting smashed after the gigs. It's a damn pity we never seem to have the time to stick around the next day.
We're very glad that some spectators at Minibaari liked us so much that they wanted us to return to spoil their Christmas party! The last time I remember a gig having been booked only a week ahead with no complaints from any of us was like five years ago, so I count this one being as close as it gets to a Christmas miracle.
Merry Christmas, folks!
The Helsinki and Seinäjoki gigs will apparently happen. Be there. Tell a friend. Bribe a workmate.
There's not going to be gigs in Jyväskylä or Kemi for what's left of this year, just as I predicted a few weeks ago. Riders' Rock Bar had apparently called off the live rock'n'roll club thing and there's just not enough room in our calendar to fit Snooker in after all this booking and cancelling. We're sorry, especially having heard of the positive uproar after the last visit to Kemi. Anyway, Snooker will be the first on our list after the winter break.
Thanks to Sami and VM's persistent efforts, we managed to find suitable dates for both Seinäjoki and Helsinki. The sad part is that the mini tour was postponed until the second weekend in November (Seinäjoki 12.11., Helsinki 13.11.), leaving us little or no room at all for booking any more gigs for the rest of the year. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the arrangement and we're all glad to wrap up the year in good company and in places we've had such fun in before. Special cheers to people at Minibaari for the co-operation!
Counters don't lie. It feels like it was a month or two ago when I first realized we had had 10000 visitors. I wonder what would happen if only we had something interesting online... Anyway, thank you all for paying attention, we'll try to have some new material for you. I'm planning a little bi-annual face lift for the site and that'd be a great break to add some new photoes (there's plenty) and probably some vid clips.
It seems that we've been booked at every damn festival/party/club that ever got cancelled. Is it us or am I just misinterpreting the stats? Anyway, there's no Emma this year, at least not in Foxia in September. Ari & Memmu -palooza, however, will take place on 9th of October in Never Grow Old, no thanks to Ipo. Too bad Moilu cannot seem to make it; at the moment it seems you're going to have to settle with Blaster Master and Chicken Grass.
We won't be playing in Lahti or Orimattila anytime soon either, instead I'm glad to tell that we've been booked in Minibaari, Seinäjoki on 1st of October, on our way to Helsinki. There's also some speculation about us appearing in Riders' Rock Bar in Jyväskylä during the fall, we'll see if we can sort out a date.
And hey, we got four stars out of five in Rumba!
The objective observer might say that we've recovered from the trauma we suffered while recording 'Tour du Monde'. It seems that the three gigs we did between the studio and last weekend were enough to bring back to us what playing live was all about. At least we thought so when driving back to Oulu after what I'd like to call tremendous time we had during our quick visit in Kemi and Snooker. Thank you Czech, people at Snooker, and others, you know.
The Reggae Bar gig wasn't so bad, either! ;)
Thanks to Mäxi, Pepe, and people at Grande, not to mention all you lovely spectators (especially you guys who helped me out when I ran out of cigarettes during the gig) for taking care of us and cheering us up during the already infamous Vahinko 2004 festival in Rovaniemi a couple of weeks ago. It took me this long to be able to concentrate on computing again! Pepe, give us a call as soon as you get your thoughts straightened out about the DBTK club stuff I remember we mumbled about at one point. We'll be there! We'll pay you if you only let us in!
Probably because of the jolly good time we had in Vahinko, we weren't quite at our best the following day at Rotos-Rock, I must admit. Despite the sticky start we survived, however, and given the circumstances it turned out to be more than a decent party after all. I cannot help mentioning the marvelous banana-salt-liquorice candies in the backstage, as I suddenly became the most popular chap at work for stealing the bag and leaving it exposed on my desk. Where the heck did you get them, anyway?
You don't have to count the Reggae Bar gig (tomorrow) and Snooker, Kemi (the day after) as being open anymore. Memmu & Ari's great communal election memmupalooza in 45 Special, on the contrary, does not seem to be turning into reality as what comes to The Lunatics appearing there. Instead, Moilu has been putting effort in booking something for the night before Boot Hill (Helsinki) and at this point it seems that it'll be somewhere near Lahti (Da Bay). A thought or two have been given to put Seinäjoki in the schedule, too, but so far we've been too shy to call Pekko and offer the usual deal which is pretty close to unarmed robbery.
Okay, see most of you tomorrow at Never Grow Old, right?
It's been agreed that we will perform in Rovaniemi at Vahinko 2004, Rio Grande, Friday the 13th of August. Unfortunately, there's very little info available about schedules, tickets (?) and venues. This is as much as we know about it, in Finnish. On Saturday the 14th we will also appear at Rotosrock '04 in Hupisaarten Kesäteatteri, Oulu. Thanks to Isse and Zakke, we will be able to try to get our shit together next weekend at Atria, too.
There's not going to be DBTK this year but there's still something going on in Rovaniemi to make sure that everybody that used to give in their 0.02m will have their shot as usual. Domestic and other obstacles are being solved so that we could throw a gig on Friday the 13th (!!!) of August in Rio Grande, Rovaniemi, evidentally supporting Jalla Jalla or vice versa. This information is nothing to book flights on, but we certainly hope that we could make this happen. I'm not sure if there's any other info on the subject available in the net as of now, but I'll try to update as soon as I know more about the occasion. There's going to be more bands on Saturday at least but I haven't got a clue who they'll be. Check back later.
The Lunatics will almost certainly appear at Rotosrock, Oulu, Hupisaarten Kesäteatteri, on 14aug2004. JP has kindly asked us to replace Ruotomieli on saturday, and we are more than pleased to fill in.
We have agreed to perform in Never Grow Old, Oulu, on 03sep2004, but as we're still waiting for confirmation from Snooker, Kemi for the following evening, you can count this one as being open, too. If Kemi gets cancelled, we probably won't bother Moilu and spoil the weekend for him for just one gig in Oulu, as much as we'd like to.
See you at gigs!
We're almost done selling our cut of 'Tour du Monde' and according to feedback from regional newspapers and especially from you people, the record company shouldn't have hard time trying to break even with theirs! Those of you who weren't too unhappy with the recent Kaleva interview might be interested in tuning into 'Oiva' on Kainuun Radio (97,3 MHz in Oulu region, at least), Saturday the 10th, as Sami has been asked for a telephone interview and at least two songs will be aired as well.
The bad news is that according to Cafe Tivoli's web site, the Down by the Kemijoki festival has been cancelled for this summer. Under normal circumstances this would only bother us so much but since this happened to be the one and only gig for the summer we're a bit down at the moment. It's a bit late to start thinking of a replacement for DBTK, given that there's only so many dates that would suit the four+ of us.
For those of you who missed the CD release gig and requested for an encore, there's a slight possibility that we could perform in Oulu near the turn of September. This still depends on numerous factors so don't consider this to be the final truth. Some arrangements are also being made to make some use of the DBTK weekend, as it seems that the the four of us will get together anyway. We will, however, be present at Emma 2004 and at Tube Park 2005, check details from the gigs page.
Last but not the least, we'd all like to thank you folks for sending greetings and feedback about the new album. That's the greatest compliment one could think of and it really makes all the work, waiting and sleepless nights worthwhile. We can't wait to get started with the next one!
All's well that ends well. Thanks to everybody who helped us through the CD release gig, we needed all the support!
If you want to become a smiley happy owner of 'Tour du Monde' CD, you'd better act reasonably fast. Currently we have about 40 copies left. If Goofin' and Jungle Records know how to do business, they should've already sold theirs ;)
Ensin suomeksi: Kyllä on nastaa! Eilen saatiin levyt, jotenka niitä on kuin onkin kaupan levynjulkaisubileissä Reggae-Baarissa perjantaina 11. päivä. Sinne siis; soitto soi, eikä laulu pahemmin häiritse. Ennakkotilauksen tehneille on postia luvassa viikon-parin sisään riippuen asuinmantereesta.
I'm very very happy to tell you that yesterday we finally received our share of 'Tour du Monde', so the album will actually be available at the release party, Friday the 11th, Never Grow Old, Oulu. See you there! We've already started mailing the CD's for those who ordered in advance, expect your copy in a week or two.
The publisher finally announced that Tour du Monde will be available on Monday, June the 7th. We're expecting our copies in two or three days from that, so it seems like there's going to be albums for sale at the release party. I promised to send email to everyone who ordered in advance but I'm holding back until we receive the CD's. Seeing is believing (Philip Bailey). Sami and VM have been representing the band in the local media, so be sure to read your Kaleva every morning! We'll come into your homes!
The better Tour du Monde preview clips are finally up at the music section.
We're not sure if 'Tour du Monde' has even gotten out of print and already we'll have to cut the price by 25%. It seems that our competitors ;) are selling the new album, available or not, for €15 so I guess that's what we'll have to settle with, too. We're still waiting for any news from the publisher but considering the Finnish instro retailers' websites, it seems that there's finally something going on. I guess we're going to have to re-evaluate the price for the 'Anthology', as some of you have asked whether it would be possible to get all three albums for a decent price. If you're still interested, act fast because I've only got a dozenish of copies of 'No Sleep' left and three of them have already been reserved.
The new CD master V3.2 and the artwork are being printed at CD-linja, according to a trustworthy source. That's good news for us, since we've already booked an album release gig at Never Grow Old on Friday, June 11th. Hopefully, we'll have some brand new CD's for sale and in case you've forgotten what the band was all about, you'll have a chance to see two 45 minute sets.
The masters have finally been delivered to Goofin and a brush stroke or two are needed to finish the cover art. I did some redesign on the web site as well, just to indicate that there's something going on in here. I'll update the music section some time soon and upload a better quality teaser clip from the new album. There's also a whole bunch of great photoes from the album cover shoot, I'll see if I'll get them online too. We expect to have some CD's for sale by April and a release party is also being planned. Stay tuned!
Mix #2 of the upcoming album 'Tour du Monde' has been delivered for mastering, at last. Words are a feeble attempt to describe how relieved I am to get the tracks out of my hands. In case everything goes as planned, mastering should be done by February 26th, and after that it's up to Goofin Records to get the album out by the beginning of April. I'll mix and upload a new teaser as soon as we get the masters back.
I think it's a good time to thank all of you people who helped us during these three months. Many, many thanks to Annu & Pasi Ruotsalainen for the Hammond, Jussi Raatikka and Kari Kuivamäki for the amps, Pöksy Räisänen for the baritone, J-P Aunola and Pasi Aikio for drum parts lost and (not) found, Katz for Joustotuote Volkswagen, Olli Tuomainen for the excellent interpretation of 'Cramps', Jouni Haapakoski for the great work with photoes and cover design, Reijo Koivula for mastering and being a boy scout, and of course Jari Pietilä for recording, mixing, patience and the numerous nights of creative horror at Cape Hope Sauna. The greatest thanks, however, goes to our families and friends for putting up with us. We owe you so much.
Some of you may be interested in hearing samples of what we've been up to during the past few months except bothering people with less than excellent live acts during their bath or dinner. Check out the online archive at tuksu.dnsalias.com for a nine minute lo-fi sample clip extracted from an early unmastered demo mix. It's going to be better, really!
Thanks to all you beautiful people
